Turning the label into a schedule
Copy the schedule exactly as the label or the vet gave it: how many times a day, which days, and for how long. If the label uses an abbreviation or a phrase you’re not sure of, ask the practice what it means rather than guessing.
Using the chart
Print it and keep it where the medication lives. Tick the box as soon as a dose is given and write your initials beside it. When more than one person looks after the pet, the chart answers whether this morning’s dose has been given before anyone gives a second one.
Take the chart to check-ups. A record of which doses were given, late or missed is easier to discuss than memory.
Questions
Does the calendar file remind me at each dose?
Yes. Each dose is an event with an alert at the dose time. Open the file on your phone or computer and add it to your calendar. A calendar alert can’t record that the dose was given; the TailCare app can.
The label says twice a day. Which times should I use?
Use the times your vet gave you. If they didn’t give times, about 12 hours apart is the usual reading of twice a day, such as 08:00 and 20:00, but check with your vet, especially if the medication has to be given with food.
How does the course length count?
As in the TailCare app, the start day counts as day 1 and the last day is included, so a 7-day course from Monday ends on Sunday. If the label gives a number of doses rather than days, use the course end date calculator.
Is anything I type sent anywhere?
No. The schedule is worked out in your browser. The details are kept in the page’s address so you can bookmark or share it, so only share the link with people you’d show the chart to.
This page isn’t veterinary advice. Always follow your vet’s instructions and the medication’s label.
